Mama Salone- as the locals called their beloved country- is also known by its white sandy beaches.   Its capital Free Town extends proudly around the Cotton Tree- emblem of the city.  Its name recalls those dark times when the slave trade enriched both europeans and africans merchands. This sad memory remains on Bunce Island where slaves were locked up  in the citadels awaiting to be sent overseas.

If you’re dreaming of a paradise – a great option is  the impressive Number 2 River beach.  The river left stunning lagooms on its way to the ocean .  Going up the river the mangroves are a natural barrier to the savanna and to the tropical forest.

Another natural beauty is the isolated Turtle Islands- one of the few truly remote places left in the world : coconut trees- surreal sand banks.

In Tacugama is located  the Chimpanzee Sanctuary, a rehabilitation center for orfhaned chimps- and close to the Kambui Mountains there is the Moakenema’s   exotic birds reserve with over 330 bird species .
